Vehicle Crashes Into Crafton Heights Doughnut Shop, 2 Injured

CRAFTON HEIGHTS (KDKA) –Two people were injured when a vehicle crashed into a Crafton Heightsdoughnut shop Wednesday morning.

According to emergency dispatchers, the accident happened at Better-Maid Donuts in the 1100-bbock of Steuben Street around 7 a.m.

KDKA's Heather Abraham Reports:

According to police, the driver entered the opposite lane of traffic while trying to get around a turning vehicle. Police say the driver then overcompensated, due to an oncoming vehicle, and crashed into the shop.

"He was coming too fast and he went to pass him and went in there," Rose Bohram said.

Two customers inside were injured. One was taken to UPMC Shadyside Hospital with an ankle injury.

The other person was pinned by the vehicle. They were taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital with more serious injuries.

However, both were last listed in stable condition.

The driver was not injured and their name has not been released.

KDKA's Lynne Hayes-Freeland Reports:

Neighbors say luckily the morning rush at the shop had died down.

"People line up to get the donuts at six o'clock when they open. They're out in the street," Bart Arlet said.

Owner Ken Smith says he's been in business here for 12 years. He hopes to get his business back up and running, whether it's there or somewhere else.

"I'm going to do everything I can because I love what I do," Smith said. "It's a blessing. You get to make people smile every day. It's a good feeling."

Police said the driver will face several traffic violations.
