Monroeville Mayor Blames Restaurant In Weekend Brawl

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The management of a restaurant where a brawl broke out Saturday night in Monroeville is pointing fingers at organizers of the event.

But Monroeville's mayor is pointing fingers of his own at the restaurant itself.

"This incident Friday has nothing to do with the actual mall itself," said Monroeville Mayor Gregory Erosenko.

That's the first thing the Mayor of Monroeville had to say about this past weekend's brawl at Winghart's Bar in the wee hours of the morning.

This time college aged young people were involved.

A Slippery Rock University Fraternity advertised an all-white attire affair, calling it the biggest college party of the year and that buses would come from colleges across the region.
But when the original venue in White Oak wasn't available there were internet notices of the change to Winghart's.

The result was too many people and not enough space.

Winghart's posted on Twitter Saturday, saying:

But the mayor says Winghart's is to blame too.

"In my opinion, this was an irresponsible move on their part," said Erosenko. "The business, Winghart's if you will, they didn't notify mall management, they didn't even notify us at the municipality. Taking all the past incidents that happened at the mall, you would think that would have been a normal procedure to say 'Hey, we're going to have a larger event, it's going to be pretty late at night, please contact us.' They did not do that."

Finding new ways to monitor social media will be coming, says the mayor.

"I'm definitely looking at all of the options and we will get on top of that issue as well," he said.
