Man In Top Hat, Accomplice Take Cash Box From Family Fun Center

GREENSBURG (KDKA) -- Two men are accused of stealing a cash box from a business in Greensburg.

The SeaBase Family Fun Center was left unlocked Monday into Tuesday so workers could go inside to clean the carpet.

Surveillance video shows the men stealing the empty box from a register Tuesday morning.

One of the men entered the business first. He was wearing a black top hat, white tennis shoes and a bandana. He tried to take the cash box, but later returned with the second man to help. The men removed the empty cash box from the register and left.

The owner's son later recognized the man who was wearing the bandana in the video walking around. He called police, who arrested 26-year-old Joshua Wells – of Hempfield – at a Sunoco Station in Hempfield Township.

Wells denied taking the cash box but told police he had been near the SeaBase Family Fun Center with his roommate, 19-year-old Zachary Boggs.

Police searched the men's apartment and questioned Boggs, who confessed to the crime. Boggs told police that the men smashed open the cash box behind a nearby AAMCO shop. But when they realized it was empty, they threw it in the trash.

Police later recovered the stolen cash box.

Wells and Boggs are facing several charges, including burglary, criminal conspiracy, criminal trespassing and criminal mischief. Both men are in the Westmoreland County jail in lieu of $15,000 bail, and are due in court in May.
