Volunteers Help To Clean Up Munhall Neighborhoods For Spring

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - Real estate agents preach curb appeal and not just for homes that are for sale.

"Doing some yard work, cleaning up the house. He has over a couple blocks away and also over in the park we are fixing some fencing, some mulching over where they run the summer basketball league," Rich Gordon said.

Volunteers have been hard at work in Munhall to help former Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch and his Best of the Batch Foundation get ready for summer.

"With some Girl Scouts out here, a good mix of people -- kind of helping us redo our office building and getting it ready for spring. They are also getting our basketball court ready for our Project Chuck basketball league, which starts up in June," Best of the Batch Director of Operations Ryan McConnell said.

Some rake leaves from under the bushes, or spread bags of mulch, while others simply sweep the sidewalks.

"I have been volunteering around for a few years now, every year, and it just feels good to help the community and clean up around," Emily Casmento said.

Carlow College and church groups sent helpers and Comcast employees make it an annual event.

"Because I really love this neighborhood. Like, I've been here a long time and I really love it and I brought my friend here to plant flowers and stuff," Intyce Merrit said.

Much work has focused on the basketball courts, where summer games are about to begin.

"This is a big part of the Batch Foundation at the court and they have certain events here and different things throughout the summer. So, this is one of our focus points here is at the park," Rich Kopanic said.

"It makes it really welcoming in this area, and I think it will really help the kids be more motivated to participate in group events and just be more unified in sports and like in friendships too," Rachel Yost said.

Through their effort, they are almost ready to go.
