Edgewood Towne Centre Shooting Suspect Arrested After Chase & Crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) - A man wanted in connection with a shootout at the Edgewood Towne Centre last month was arrested following a chase Tuesday night.

Around 8 p.m., officers tried to pull over a vehicle driven by Montell Mitchell, 19, of Rankin, on Braddock Avenue in East Pittsburgh.

However, Mitchell sped off and led police on a chase. Eventually, Mitchell drove through a yard and rolled into a parked car on Wolfe Avenue in North Braddock.

Mitchell and a 23-year-old passenger got out of the vehicle and attempted to run, but were quickly apprehended.

Mitchell was wanted in connection with a shootout at the Edgewood Towne Centre on March 19.

Police said two men were in a store, and when a third man came in, shots were exchanged.

Edgewood Police Chief Robert Payne said the shooting continued outside the store in the parking lot as the three men jumped into two separate cars and took off through the lot onto South Braddock Avenue.

One man was injured after being shot in the arm.

A warrant had been issued for Mitchell for charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault and seven counts of reckless endangerment.

Mitchell had heroin and pills on him at the time of the arrest Tuesday night. He remains in the Allegheny County Jail.
