McKees Rocks Parents Charged In Death of 3-Month-Old

MCKEES ROCKS (KDKA) - Allegheny County homicide detectives are looking into the death of a 3-month-old boy.

According to police, 3-month-old Kaleb Reiber died early Sunday morning at Ohio Valley Hospital. He was in his home on Chartiers Avenue in McKees Rocks when police believe he was smothered by a family member that rolled on top of him.

KDKA's Amy Wadas Reports:

His parents, Thomas Reiber, 36, and Melinda Giconi, 30, are at the Allegheny County Jail charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of children.

However, those charges could change pending baby Kaleb's autopsy results.

The couple has two other children - ages 6 and 3.

During the investigation, police say the kids were found unattended in the home and the conditions were deplorable. Clothes were piled everywhere, cigarette butts and food were also all over the place.

Police say the couple just got their kids back from CYF on Friday.

KDKA's Lynne Hayes-Freeland Reports:

Ryan Wagner, of Sheraden, says he called police Saturday when he saw the couple at a McKees Rocks ice cream Shop.

"The mother, she had a newborn strapped to her chest. She was basically falling asleep. She couldn't stay awake. The same with the dad. We called the police," Wagner said.

He says it looked like they were on drugs and their two other kids weren't being watched. Investigators say the two are well-known heroin users.

"Drugs are taking over this community. It needs to be dealt with. Something needs to change," Wagner said.

Police say the other two children are staying with relatives.
