South Side & Downtown Among Top Places To Find A 'Cougar' In Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio 1020 KDKA) - A "cougar" - not the animal - is typically known as an older woman who likes to date younger men or "cubs."

Erica Porsch, apokeswoman for the website CougarLife.com joined "The KDKA Morning News" with Larry Richert and John Shumway to explain what exactly a "cougar" is and what parts of Pittsburgh are the best places for a young man to find one.

Porsch says that there is stigma associated with "cougars" and CougarLife is trying to change that.

"Technically (a 'cougar' is) usually mid-30's to early 40's who enjoys the company of younger men, but it's also a mindset," Porsch said.

She says that kind of mindset encourages, "Strong independent women [who don't] adhere to who society wants [them] to date."

Porsch also says that men have been dating younger women for years.

"Women have been too, but more women have been in the shadows because it was looked down upon," Porsch said.

She thinks a man or women should be able to date anyone they want, within legal limits, without society judging them.

The top 5 places in Pittsburgh where "cubs" are most likely to "snag a cougar," according to CougarLife.com are:

1. South Side Flats
2. Downtown
3. Point Breeze
4. Squirrel Hill
5. Shadyside
