Summer Attractions Expected To Bring In $40 Mil To Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A wide range of attractions are on tap in Pittsburgh this summer.

Tourism vendors showed off transportation choices ranging from Pedal Power to Just Ducky Tours, as guests turned out at the Wyndham Grand Hotel for VisitPittsburgh's annual Summer Spotlight.

"If you want a hotel room in Pittsburgh you'd better book it soon, because they're going to be hard to come by," VisitPittsburgh C.E.O. Craig Davis told the banquet guests. "Which is good news for all of us."

He says conventions this summer will be, as he put it, "off the charts."

"We're going to have the Fraternal Order of Police 100th anniversary. The Veterans of Foreign Wars are meeting here, as well. Of course, our friends the 'Furries' will be returning. All told, between now and the end of the summer, we're going to have over $40 million of economic impact for those conventions, just alone."

In addition to the annual events, Pittsburgh will get a visit from a society that puts on a show in four-part harmony.

"The Barbershop Harmony Society we pitched 14 years ago, and they're just coming to Pittsburgh now. The Barbershop Harmony Society will bring in 5,800 for the July 4th weekend."

It's not just fireworks anymore.
