Squirrel Hill Daycare Center Closes Abruptly In Rent Dispute

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- The Rainbow's End Day Care Center and Child Academy on Murray Avenue in the city's Squirrel Hill section closed its doors for good on Tuesday.

It's been in operation there for 17 years.

The owner of the building went to court and got the okay to evict the business because of unpaid rent.

Kristy Pierce showed up at the center just before closing time late in the afternoon.

"We were caught off guard," she told KDKA-TV News. "I did not expect to come here today and have the facility completely empty like this."

Another woman who came to the center said her daughter had three children enrolled at Rainbow's End. The grandmother, who did not give her name, said, "I love this daycare; it's top notch."

The owner of the business, Tare Kentobe, told KDKA-TV, "I feel very bad. I thought we could work things out, that's why we didn't say anything to parents [until today].

Kentobe says she has another daycare center set to open up Forbes Avenue with a temporary emergency occupancy permit approved.
