SUV Crash Takes Down 2 Poles On South Side, Driver Issued DUI Summons

SOUTH SIDE (KDKA)- Police blocked off a section of 18th Street in the South Side after a wild ride for one driver.

According to police, the accident happened on South 18th Street around 1:20 a.m.

The driver of a Jeep Liberty was coming down the hill toward Mission, when she crashed into a pole and an iron gate.

The impact from the crash took down two Duquesne Light Poles and affected eight transformers.

The driver has been identified as Samantha Davis, 22, of Castle Shannon.

She was able to get out of the vehicle on her own and received a summons for DUI.

Power company crews were called to the scene to replace the power pole.

Duquesne Light says 50 to 75 customers without power won't see the lights come back on until 8 p.m.

The road remained blocked off in the area for hours. Sawhorses were initially set up to block off the road, but several drivers had to lock up their brakes to avoid them.

At least one driver didn't brake in time and knocked over one of the sawhorses.
