Teen Killed In East Hills Shooting

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – A 14-year-old was killed after being shot in the East Hills Sunday morning.

The shooting happened around 12:30 a.m.

The city medical examiner's office said 14-year-old Kelvin Lovelace of Wilkinsburg was standing with a group outside the East Hills Park housing complex.

There was a group of about 200 people out, according to police.

A friend who did not want to be identified lives near the scene of the shooting.

"My friend's 14-year-old son was shot at a graduation party," she said. "An 18-year-old kid shot into the crowd, hitting him in the back of the head."

Lovelace was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital following the shooting, where he later died.

A number of people, including teenagers, returned to the scene, still in disbelief that a 14-year-old is gone.

Residents tell KDKA it's not the first time there's been trouble in the area. They're wondering when it's going to end.

"I got a 2-year-old son and a newborn due next month, so it's definitely frustrating to actually be in an environment, because I have to watch my child and really watch my child as he plays in the backyard," said one resident.

No one has been arrested. Police are reviewing video surveillance from cameras in the community. Anyone with information is asked to give them a call.
