Vandalism, Harassment Plagues Lawrenceville Community Group

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A local community group has been dealing with vandalism and harassment for months now.

But the latest attack is taking things to a new level.

In the lot behind the Lawrenceville United offices, an agency that says it's dedicated to the improvement of the neighborhood, is a burned-out pickup truck.

Apparently somebody doesn't agree with the organization's mission and tried to send a message of their own – torching the truck.

And it's not the first time the organization, or some of its leaders, have been targeted.

Back in September, the organizations sent a message on its Facebook page, reporting that someone had thrown a brick through the front window of Lawrenceville United's office.

According to their Facebook page, the brick had the letters "LB" on it, which they believe targeted the executive director Lauren Byrne.

In October, the board chair issued a letter saying continued vandalism and thefts targeted the organization and its allies. The letter said then that the victims of these attacks and incidents have all been directly engaged in public meetings and hearings regarding high-profile neighborhood issues and positions taken by Lawrenceville United.

But the message concludes that those acts would not be tolerated. What is unclear at this point is what led to the acts of vandalism and who is responsible.

The executive director referred our questions to the board, which has yet to respond. But in the past the organization has asked anyone with information about these incidents to call Pittsburgh Police.
