Pitt Center Named To Preseason Award Watch List
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - Everyone expects Pitt football to have multiple players on award watch lists this year as running back James Conner and wide receiver Tyler Boyd are amongst the best at their position in the nation.
Now, another Pitt player is getting recognized for his talent.
Pitt's 6-foot-4-inch, 335-pound sophomore center Alex Officer has been named to the Remington Trophy preseason watch list.
The Remington Trophy is presented annually to the most outstanding center in college football.
Officer was thrust into duty last year as a red-shirt freshman when starting center Artie Rowell was lost for the season with a knee injury. Officer went on to start 10 games, anchoring an offensive line that helped clear the path for an offense that averaged 435.4 yards per game.
Officer came to Pitt from Eastridge High School in Rochester, New York. There, he helped pave the road for a lethal rushing attack his senior year in which Eastridge won the Section V Class A championship.
