SUV Crashes Into Porch In Forest Hills, Misses 6 People By Just A Few Feet

FOREST HILLS (KDKA)- Six people celebrating the holiday weekend on their porch are lucky to be alive.

An SUV slammed into the porch along Braddock Road in Forest Hills just before 6 p.m. Sunday.

According to the criminal complaint, the driver, Robert Rodrigues, had just left a family member's home on the same street after an argument. Witnesses say Rodrigues' car sped across the road, hit a wall in the yard, hit the porch and ended up going over a retaining wall and landing on top of a car.

Six people were on the porch when the SUV hit it.

"I saw it out of the corner of my eye, just a blur," said Jim Haley, who was on the porch. "Thank God we're buying a new car instead of going to a funeral. If he would have been over one or two more feet, all six of us would have been wiped out."

After hitting the porch and landing on top of another car, police say Rodrigues got out of the car and tried to run away from the scene. Police say some neighbors were able to catch him and hold him on the ground until officers arrived.

Rodrigues has been charged with recklessly endangering another person, driving under the influence, careless driving and reckless driving.

He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
