Fire Breaks Out At Hazelwood High-Rise

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – One person was hospitalized after fire broke out at a Hazelwood high rise.

Firefighters were called to the Hazelwood Towers on Tecumseh Street around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the fourth floor. However, firefighters were able to squash the blaze within 20 minutes.

One woman was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital for treatment. Her dog also suffered from smoke inhalation and is being taken care of by a neighbor.

The Red Cross is helping several residents displaced by the fire.
