Former Jeannette H.S. Coach Charged After Inappropriate Contact With 2 Students

JEANNETTE (KDKA) – A former wrestling coach at Jeannette High School is facing charges over alleged inappropriate contact with two students.

According to the criminal complaint, the incidents happened in the fall of 2014.

One incident involved a 15-year-old girl, who admitted to texting with and spending more than one night sleeping in the bed of 26-year-old Joshua Westfall.

In one instance, Westfall allegedly performed a sex act on the girl.

The principal at Jeannette High School told police when she heard rumors that Westfall was having a relationship with a student. She questioned him and several students. She reported that Westfall allegedly admitted that students had stayed at him home, but he denied any inappropriate conduct.

During the course of their investigation, a 16-year-old girl said Westfall had kissed her twice. The girl said his actions were unwanted on both occasions.

Westfall resigned from the Jeannette wrestling program earlier this year.

The Jeannette School District Superintendent Dr. Matthew Hutcheson released a statement Monday.

It reads, in part, "The School District investigated the allegations against the coach immediately upon receiving information of possible inappropriate activity, and immediately contacted the police in accordance with the district policies and procedures."

Westfall is facing a list of charges including deviate sexual intercourse, sexual assault and corruption of minors.

He is out of jail with $25,000 unsecured bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 11.
