Suspects Sought After Monaca Youth Football Equipment Theft

MONACA (KDKA) – Stone Quarry Field in Monaca is the home of the Monaca Little Indians Midget and Mighty Mite football squads.

And like any home, it is where you are supposed to feel safe. But sometime between May 17 and May 21, all of the kids' football gear was stolen.

"That's pretty bad, real bad. People are doing stupid stuff," said one person.

Manning Wiley of Beaver falls agreed. "I think how horrible it is, in the society we live in, nothing is safe, sacred anymore."

Police are looking at various possibilities as to who might be responsible for the burglary.

Team jerseys, helmets, footballs even Gatorade and strips of tickets were taken from the storage area.

Sgt. Roger Young of the Monaca Police Force said, "The staff always does a very good job of securing that property the gate and the concrete building that it's housed in."

With the summer break about to begin, it won't be long before the Monaca Indians are scheduled to start their practice.

Only now there's nothing to practice with. The stolen equipment was only about a year old and came from community donations and minimal entrance fees.

"It severely impacts the community because it's an outlet for countless children in our area ages 14 and below to have somewhere to play and learn teamwork," say police.

There is reward money available for case and police are working a number of leads but so far, no arrests.

Supporters would like to see fundraisers to help the kids.

"People are crazy," said Bob Donley of Monaca. "That's all I got to say"
