Family Sues Hotel, Former Employee Accused of Sexually Abusing Two Boys

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP (KDKA)- A Cranberry Township hotel is being sued by a family over the alleged actions of a former desk clerk.

The lawsuit has been filed against Candlewood Suites off of Route 19.

Former desk clerk Nancy Fields, a 33-year-old from Beaver Falls, faces a long list of sex abuse charges. Cranberry Township Police have charged her with indecent exposure, indecent assault, corruption of minors and endangering the welfare of children.

According to court documents, a mother and her two boys moved into the hotel back in September of 2013, so the mother could be closer to the medical care she needed. Fields, who worked the front desk at the Candlewood Suites, quickly became friends with the family.

But after a few weeks, Fields' behavior became inappropriate and sexual. Fields allegedly forced the boys to touch her "in a sexual manner" and took sexually explicit photos of them.

According to the lawsuit, Candlewood management responded to the mother's complaints by telling Fields she needed to be more discrete in her interactions with the boys. They also joked that she was "merely taking off their training wheels."

Fields was fired from the hotel in January of 2014.

Today, Gerald Cassady, who is representing Fields in the criminal case, said he just found out about the civil lawsuit against Candlewood Suites.

"If they file pleadings in the civil suit that might tell us a little bit more about what their case is that we may be able to better prepare for trial or negotiate so that's a good thing from the defense," Cassady said.

Fields is scheduled to appear in court once again in July, which would be her last appearance before a jury would be selected if the case goes to trial.
