Since the NFL began in 1953, there have been 23 total quarterbacks inducted into the Hall of Fame. Out of those 23, six are from Western Pa.
Dan Marino joined “The KDKA Morning News” with Larry Richert John Shumway to talk about Gridiron Gold, Jim Kelly’s battle with cancer and what he is currently up to.
According to Marino, it will be the first time the four surviving quarterbacks (Marino, Kelly, Montana and Namath) will be together at the same time. He talked about how he is excited to see them because it’s been years since he last saw them.
Marino talked about Jim Kelly’s battle with cancer and what it was like to see him at his golf tournament this year.
“It was an emotional weekend for him and all the people up there that come to his tournament because he missed last year’s tournament because of his health,” says Marino.
Marino said he doesn’t have a solid answer as to why western Pa. has such a high number of Hall of Fame quarterbacks.READ MORE: Man Dies In Crash On Route 22 In Indiana County
“I think it all goes back to the football in Western Pennsylvania and in high school and growing up, it’s a part of every neighborhood,” he says.
Marino now works for the Miami Dolphins. He is a Special Advisor for the Owner and CEO of the team. He says he is happy to be around football again.
Marino also gave his thoughts on Ben Roethlisberger and the season coming up for the Steelers.
“I think he’s excellent. When you take a look at his career, coming in as a young player, they had a pretty good football team when he was young. He won a couple Super Bowls, and the way he was able to continue to develop over time. He is one of the best players at that position,” says Marino.
