Police Investigate Fatal Shooting In McKeesport

MCKEESPORT (KDKA) - Police are investigating after one man was killed in a shooting late Wednesday night in McKeesport.

The shooting happened in the 900-block of Fifth Avenue.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified by the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office as 38-year-old Seneca Byrd. An autopsy is scheduled for later today.

Authorities said Byrd and another person had been at the Tube City Saloon before multiple shots were fired.

"We believe this shooting was the result of an altercation that started inside the bar and went outside," Allegheny County Police Lt. Lt. Andrew Schurman said.

Police said there was a large crowd outside when the shooter left the area.

Neighbors said they heard gunshots then came outside to Byrd in the middle of the street. They say they're sick of this violence and it needs to stop.

"Just trying to clean it up. That's all I'm trying to do because it's sad. It hurts, my heart hurts. My heart goes out to that family because I've been through it," Linda Wilson said.

For Wilson, the emotions and pain of her daughter's murder resurfaced following Wednesday night's shooting.

Wilson said whatever prompted the shooting is senseless.

"What's wrong with people when you have to hate and take someone's life? Why can't you talk someone over if you have a problem?" she said.

Allegheny County Police said they believe there are witnesses who know something about the person who pulled the trigger. They're asking those people to come forward anonymously with that information.
