Mercer Co. Woman Says Restaurant Fired Her After Getting Mammogram

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A Mercer County woman is looking for a new job after she says she was fired from the restaurant where she works for getting a mammogram.

Jamie Crytzer worked at the Hickory Grille in Hermitage.

She said after finding a lump on her breast, she scheduled a mammogram and talked to her managers to let them know what was going on.

Although she had an appointment for the mammogram, she says an earlier appointment opened up and asked her manager if she could leave for an hour to get checked out.

Crytzer says her manager told her "you're gonna do whatever you want and this is job abandonment."

Crytzer left to get her mammogram and went home. But when she showed up for work the next day, she had been let go.

The Hickory Grille did release a statement saying they couldn't comment on the matter, but that, "all personnel actions taken were in complete accordance with proper personnel management. We want our community to know that we have helped many, many employees through difficult times throughout the years, and will continue to do so. We care deeply for our employees and their families."

After her firing, Crytzer posted about her ordeal on Facebook. The post quickly got over 2,000 shares.

Although Crytzer believes she made the right choice, she's still without a job.
The good news is, the lump on her breast was benign.
