Mystery Surrounds Brownsville Middle School Principal's Suspension

BROWNSVILLE (KDKA) -- The principal of Brownsville Middle School has been placed on unpaid leave.

The issue at hand is simple, Brownsville Area Middle School Principal Vince Nesser's not been paid since the school board's vote in late May. He'd already been suspended, with pay, over undisclosed issues.

"They said there were accusations; they never gave us the details," said Jeff Payne, a school board member.

Payne cast the lone dissenting vote when the board addressed the issue.

"I didn't think we should cut his pay till we heard his side of the story," he said.

Nesser, 54, claims he was never informed of the suspension without pay, and a hearing in front of the school board hasn't been scheduled.

KDKA's Ross Guidotti: "Were you given any indication how he was notified, or if, in fact, he was notified?"

Payne: "No, not at all."

Nesser, however, has been the center of controversy in the past.

Parents voiced outrage over Nesser openly releasing student grades during a school assembly in 2013.

But Payne says Nesser deserves due process before lawsuits start flying.

Payne: "I would think so. I don't know. What's it sound like?"

Guidotti: "Is that something we've seen in Brownsville… lawsuits?"

Payne: "Yeah we've had a few."

The district declined comment on the matter.

As for what' s next for the embattled principal, his attorney was unavailable for comment but has indicated in the past to the media that he intends on seeing that his client is fully exonerated and back on the job.
