Local Couple Plead Guilty In Log Homes Tax Fraud
PITTSBURGH (AP) - A Pittsburgh-area couple has pleaded guilty to filing to file individual and corporate tax returns for their high-end log home business, and further evaded taxes by using corporate accounts to pay their personal expenses.
Paul and Lynda Schneider, of Franklin Park, pleaded guilty before a federal judge in Pittsburgh on Monday and will return for sentencing in October.
They run Cedar Direct, which is related to their Mountain Creations Cedar Log & Timber Homes business in Wexford.
The couple allegedly conspired to avoid the taxes by working in concert with an unspecified family member who runs Mountain Creations.
The company is known for its online ads that feature Larry Thomas, the actor who portrayed the "Soup Nazi" on the sitcom "Seinfeld." Thomas is not accused of any wrongdoing.
