Hulton Bridge Reopens To Traffic

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Good news for drivers who use the Hulton Bridge in Oakmont, today PennDOT announced that the bridge is reopened to traffic, nearly 12 hours earlier than expected.

The bridge closed two weeks ago for roadway reconstruction work, part of a $64.8 million dollar project that includes replacing the 105-year-old bridge with a new four-lane structure.

The single-lane alternating traffic pattern on Freeport Road has been removed as well. Both directions will maintain a single lane of traffic.

The new bridge will run approximately 1,600 feet in length and will be located directly upstream of the existing bridge. Reconstruction of approximately 1,300 feet of Freeport Road and 550 feet of Hulton Road is also part of the project. This includes signal and lighting upgrades, curb and sidewalk improvements, drainage, pavement markings and utility relocation.

Another two-week closure to tie roads into the new bridge will occur sometime in late September.
