Officials Worried About River Conditions Leading Up To Regatta

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The Three Rivers Regatta starts Friday, and all eyes are on the Rivers tonight.

The Fish and Boat Commission has been monitoring conditions all week.

Crews were out on the water today, checking things out.

They're concerned about some of the larger pieces of debris that can be hard to see.

"It's not so much the debris that you see, some of these logs are just so water-soaked that you will barely see an inch above the water if a boater gets distracted for whatever reason and he comes up on it, he will not see it," said Officer Michael Johnson with the State Fish and Boat Commission.

They're going to make an announcement Friday morning about conditions on the river and whether it's safe to go ahead with all the Regatta activities.
