Man Slated For Trial In Violent Robbery Of Elderly Woman

PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) - A western Pennsylvania man goes on trial Monday on charges in a violent home invasion robbery last fall that sent a 91-year-old woman to the hospital.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that 47-year-old Gregory Howard of Monessen is scheduled for trial in Westmoreland County in the Oct. 21 robbery in Rostraver Township.

Police say 91-year-old Franny Tekavec was thrown to the floor, tied up, assaulted, and her dog threatened when three men invaded her home.

Howard and two other men are accused of pretending to be furniture deliverymen and then forcing their way into the woman's home, tying her up, and taking $20,000 in jewelry and $928 cash.

Police said she was left with a fractured vertebra after she was shoved against her refrigerator and forced to the floor. She underwent surgery at Allegheny General Hospital.
