Man Arrested After Storming St. Clair Hospital Helipad

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – A man was arrested Sunday after police say he nearly rammed a helicopter at St. Clair Hospital in Mt. Lebanon.

Police say 50-year-old Eric Logan was having a mental health issue when he drove around security, onto the helipad and stopped inches from the running helicopter.

Hospital security tackled Logan as he ran towards the chopper's pilot.

"The driver sat in the car for a few seconds and then started to get out of the car as the hospital police were advancing on him and he made movements towards the helicopter itself and the pilot was able to shut the helicopter down as quickly as he could," Mt. Lebanon Police Chief Aaron Lauth said. "He believed someone was following him."

The helicopter was preparing to fly a 12-hour-old infant to Children's Hospital at the time.

Logan is charged on multiple accounts, including risking a catastrophe, aggravated assault and resisting arrest, among others.

It's unclear why Logan was in the Pittsburgh area at this time.
