PITTSBURGH (KDKA/AP) – About 12,000 combat veterans are in Pittsburgh for the Veterans of Foreign Wars Convention.
This is the first time in 100 years that the five-day convention has been held in the city.
Delegates will be meeting to discuss and pass resolutions encouraging Congress and the Obama administration to provide more for veterans.
That is one point President Barack Obama will speak to when he arrives in Pittsburgh Tuesday.
Another topic many veterans at the convention are discussing is Donald Trump's recent comments about Arizona Sen. John McCain.
At an Iowa candidate forum on Saturday, Trump dismissed Sen. McCain's reputation as a war hero, saying the aviator was merely taken captive after being shot down in Vietnam and "I like people who weren't captured."
That did not sit well with some veterans KDKA-TV talked with at the convention.
"He's wrong, totally wrong, because Sen. McCain-- any veteran that served in the service-- especially a POW, really is a great hero. That's all. I don't care who they are," Air Force veteran Anthony Filardi said.
"As a veteran, we take care of one another, and something like that, it offends every veteran. It should, anyways," National Guard veteran Henry Mannella said.
