Sammie Coates Says He's Putting In Good Work At Training Camp

LATROBE (93-7 THE FAN) – Wednesday marked the beginning of the end of football in shorts for the Steelers at training camp and an opportunity for the rookies to show their full potential at a faster pace.

Rookie wide receiver Sammie Coates is competing for the No. 4 spot on the depth chart and he said he was able put in some good work at practice with the pads on.

"First day in pads, you have a long camp.  It's just a process to get better every day and show what you can do," Coates said.

With the pads came some high temperatures but he's taking all of the precautions to stay healthy so he can get as many reps as possible.

"You get a little intensity, but it's also hotter.  You have to get used to the heat.  Keep watering and keep working," Coates said.

He said everybody has been watching out for him and the rest of the rookies and he's really enjoying working with Antonio Brown.

"He's a hard worker, he works hard every day.  You have to come out here and compete with him so you have to come and work with his tempo," Coates said. "So it's kind of hard."
