TV Show Filmed In Vandergrift Coming To An End

VANDERGRIFT (KDKA) -- People in Vandergrift are disappointed to hear that a TV show that's been filming there is coming to end.

The production brought thousands of dollars into the borough, and people had hoped for more seasons to come.

Rob Owen, TV critic for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reported Tuesday that Cinemax was pulling the plug on the series "Banshee."

Wednesday, the network put out an official statement, confirming that the season being filmed in Vandergrift will be the show's last. The show's executive producer said the story had been told so it was time for the show to come to an end.

The TV crews have done quite a job transforming the steel town on the Kiski River.

The Casino Theater was changed to "Banshee City Hall." The Borough Building was renamed "Banshee." And the old vacant JC Penney store was renovated and turned into the "Banshee Sheriff's Department."

Locals got to play extras on the show, and town got a check for $200,000 for this season of filming.

"They've been great to us," said Zach Albert, whose dad owns the store Tees N' Tops. "They've been great to the community. They've been giving everybody business. I mean, honestly, we're sad to see them go."

The store has been selling "Banshee" themed t-shirts and caps. Albert says the fictional show has meant a real life economic boost here.

The Cinemax show filmed its first three seasons in North Carolina, but moved here for season four.

At Sweetlane Chocolate Shop, they're going miss the show. The production crew had become regulars.

"They really like the milkshakes," said Nicole Basile, one of the owners. "When they're in town filming, they all come in to the shop."

They made some additions to the menu: a milkshake and a burger named after the program.

"It's been such a bright little thing for our town, and it's going to go away again," said Pete Basile, also an owner of the shop. "We hate to see it go."

The Vandergrift council president says he hasn't been told the show is ending and that his contact at "Banshee" says they haven't gotten the word yet.

He's says he's still hoping the show ending isn't true.

Filming for the season four ends next week in Vandergrift.
