2 Arrested After High Speed Chase Ends On Route 28

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Pittsburgh Police took three people into custody in a wild high speed chase that stretched from Murrysville to Millvale.

Officers say the chase started at 4 p.m. in the Hill District after the suspects refused to stop at a traffic stop.

That sparked a pursuit that spanned several neighborhoods.

It ended on Route 28 North, whith investigators taking 3 people into custody.

One of them was a female in the back seat who authorities characterized as an "unwilling participant."

Over a dozen officers followed the stolen vehicle across the Liberty Bridge, onto the Parkway East, and into Schenley Park and Squirrel Hill.

That's where John Harnish first saw the damaged car speed past him.

"He actually was coming straight onto me at the intersection," Harnish told KDKA's Kym Gable. "I was at a stop light. I immediately tried swerving right and he flew right by me."

The chase came to an end on Route 28 near the 40th Street Bridge.

The male driver and male front seat passenger were taken to UPMC Mercy for evaluation.

"It was pretty crazy," said Harnish. "All the cops too - they were constantly coming through. The car looked pretty banged up as it was. It looked like he hit some other stuff before he saw me."
