Crazed fans, hangers-on, entourages, managers, agents, trainers. Professional athletes are surrounded by many people. So who can they count on as a true friend? Man’s best friend, of course! Pets don’t care about money or success. Their loyalty doesn’t hinge on goals or touchdowns or home runs. It’s about an open heart, and athletes can do that just like any normal Joe. Here are some furry friends to those who wear Pittsburgh black and gold.

Le’Veon Bell
Pittsburgh Steelers

The best girl in running back Le’Veon Bell’s life would have to be his dog, Beautiful. She’s the star of his Instagram page – close ups, selfies, videos. You can tell this football star’s heart belongs to her. This hashtag can be found on many of the posts: #MeAndBeautiful.

David Perron
Pittsburgh Penguins

Penguins forward David Perron has a new baby and quite the menagerie of animals. Featured most on his Instagram page though are Jack, a little white dog, and Stella, a large brindle dog. Most recently, the two pups can be seen in a photo lounging in a picturesque lake scene at a summer cottage. After all, a hockey player’s pets need some much-needed downtime during the off-season, too.

Neil Walker
Pittsburgh Pirates

When second baseman Neil Walker needs to fit in a game of catch, we’re sure he turns to his best bud, Oliver, his miniature Australian Shepherd! Oliver even makes the trip to Bradenton for Spring Training. We just have to wonder if he could outrun Oliver Onion in the Pierogie Races at PNC Park!

Nick Bonino
Pittsburgh Penguins

We think Nick Bonino and his dog Kali are excited about being traded to the Pens! Anticipating the start of the new season, Bonino has his brown and white pup modeling his new gear on Twitter! Kali, we think you look pretty good in black and gold, too! #Swag stamp of approval!

Cam Heyward
Pittsburgh Steelers

Defensive end Cam Heyward may be tough on the field, but his adorable dog Cooper is enough to melt any football player’s heart. An exercise buddy, one tweet shows Cooper muddy but still ready to play! Maybe training for his own chance at the NFL Combine?

Phil Kessel

Phil Kessel is another one of the newest Penguins, and that means he and his cute little dog Stella will soon be making the move to Pittsburgh! On Instagram, Stella can be seen in many of Kessel’s photos, calling her his best friend! We’re sure she’ll help make the transition to the black and gold of the Steel City a little easier!
