Man Survives After Tank Explodes In Car

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Robert Williams is lucky.

"Just had an explosion in the car with an acetylene tank. I thought I had it aired out enough and evidently not. When I went to start the car it just blew up," Robert Williams said.

It happened inside his garage in Monroeville.

"I don't remember nothing except getting out of the car and walking over the windshield and coming in the house to call my daughter and wife. They were out shopping," Williams said.

David Provance was sitting in his office at Monroeville Christian Church across the street when he heard a loud boom.

"We heard a huge explosion and it was an explosion big enough it actually shook the building. I was kidding with my secretary saying the air conditioner guy on the building may have blown up did you hear that? We were laughing," Evangelist David Provance of Monroeville Christian Church said.

Williams was taken to the hospital by ambulance but released later on in the evening.

"They checked the ears, they're fine. No broken bones, no contusions, bleeds anywhere. They couldn't believe it. Nobody could believe it," Williams said.

"I thank the Lord he's okay," Provance said.

"It's great to be alive and praise God for having an angel there with me," Williams said.

The Allegheny County fire marshal is investigating the cause of the explosion.
