PERRYOPOLIS (KDKA) – A Queen Anne-style house in the village of Layton, near Perryopolis, doubled as the home of “Buffalo Bill” when Silence of the Lambs was filmed in the Pittsburgh area 25 years ago. It is where Jodie Foster, as FBI agent Clarice Starling, met and killed the serial killer.
“Come on in,” says Barbara Lloyd. She and her husband, Scott Lloyd, are co-owners.READ MORE: COVID-19 In Pittsburgh: Allegheny Co. Health Dept. Reports 405 New Coronavirus Cases, Increasing County Total To 93,684
The house’s listed sale price is $300,000.
“This is the actual foyer that was used in Silence of the Lambs,” she says. And in the dining room, “This is where Jodie Foster noticed the death’s head moth flying around the table, and she said, ‘Oh my gosh. This is the serial killer.'”
A pair of clips that held fake pipes are still on the basement wall. The retired school teachers and their son moved up to the second floor as filming went on.
“We never knew what to expect when we got home from work,” Barbara recalls. “How many people were in the house, outside the house.”
“They would occasionally leave the dog out, not knowing they did it,” Scott adds. “We would come home and, no dog.”READ MORE: Pennsylvania Casinos Took In Record-Breaking $403 Million From Gamblers In March
Luckily, the dog always came back.
The house was built in 1910, by the owner of a dry goods store. After 39 years living here, the couple has put it up for sale. The Lloyd’s Berkshire Hathaway realtor suggests a bed-and-breakfast for movie buffs.
But in the cellar, don’t expect to see that pit where the psycho kept his victims.
In the side yard, under a slab of concrete, is a well the producers used as a model for the well you see in the movie.
The Lloyds will take with them a memento: a copy of the book, signed by director Jonathan Demme and Jodie Foster.
