Shots Fired Near Store Days After Clerk Chases Would-Be Robbers With Sword

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Police are investigating after shots were fired at a store just days after a clerk chased away two would-be robbers with a sword.

According to police, shots were fired at the Perry Market in the 2600-block of Perrysville Avenue and North Charles Street around 1:30 p.m.

Police say five teenagers were standing in front of the store when someone in a silver sedan with tinted windows pulled up to the intersection and opened fire. The teens ran into the store to take cover.

The owner reportedly thought it was another robbery and returned fire. That's when one of the teens, a 15-year-old boy, was grazed in the leg by a bullet.

He was not seriously injured, but was taken to a local hospital for treatment. He's in stable condition.

But some of the store's windows were damaged.

On Friday, two males wearing masks went into the store, one of whom went behind the counter and demanded money while armed with a foot-long knife.

However, the cashier was more prepared than the robber, pulling out a large sword and scaring off the suspect. He was then seen on surveillance footage running out of the store.

Police continue to investigate today's shooting, but it appears the store was not the target.
