Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette Talks Brown's Contract, Bryant & Real Concern For Defense

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Steelers Insider Ed Bouchette joined The Cook and Poni Show on Wednesday morning to discuss the latest with the Steelers as we are just days away from the season opener in New England.

Antonio Brown was given an additional $2 million for the upcoming season, but Bouchette points out to the guys it's not as though the Steelers gave him an actual additional $2 million more than he is owed in his contract.

"They took two million he was owed next year and gave it to him now," Bouchette said. "It's not a raise. He is going to be down $2 million next year."

Bouchette also pointed out that it appears that Brown was given this as an advance because he needs the money now.

"I'm not saying he is desperate," Bouchette added, "but if he wants the money now he must need it."

Bouchette also discussed the four-game suspension for Martavis Bryant and how the Steelers may look to the wavier wire to pick up additional help. Bouchette says the Steelers will help him and support him, but that may change if he doesn't stop smoking marijuana.

"If he tests positive again, it's going to be 10 games," Bouchette said. "And I wouldn't like his future here."

Bouchette also told the guys there seems to be a real concern among the Steelers leadership that they have real issues with the defense especially in the secondary.
