Andrew McCutchen Named National League Player Of The Month

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The FAN) - The Pittsburgh Pirates went a staggering 19-8 during the month of August and a big reason for their success was the play of Andrew McCutchen.

McCutchen has been rewarded for those efforts by being named the National League Player of the Month for August.

Playing in 27 of the team's 28 games last month, McCutchen hit .348 with five home runs and 19 RBI. McCutchen ranked third among qualifying National League leaders in hitting and slugging percentage and had the league's second best on-base percentage.

This marks the fourth time in his career that McCutchen has won a Player of the Month award.

McCutchen beat out the Cubs' Anthony Rizzo and Kris Baker for the award among others.
