Student Accused Of Making Bomb Threats To High School Twice

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- A local high school student is accused of making threats.

As a result, letters went out to parents today in the West Jefferson Hills School District.

And KDKA has learned the threats were made by the same student who made threats last year.

The letter that went out to parents in the district read in part, "Last evening the administration of the Thomas Jefferson High School was given information that a student was talking about bombs."

Dr. Michael Panza, the superintendent of the West Jefferson Hills School District spoke to Brenda Waters.

"What happened yesterday is that a rumor was said that a high school student said the word bomb to a middle school student who told their parents, who notified the high school administration, who called the Jefferson Hills Police," he said.

The high school was secured and police searched the building with dogs. Nothing was found.

Today the 920 students attended class. Threats were also made at the school last year, allegedly by the same male student who was taken out of the school, but is now back. Superintendent Panza addressed this as well.

"Is he back in school this year?" asked Brenda Waters.

"Yes, every child has the right to a public education," he said. "The child is in school at this time."

"He is still a student here and we're taking appropriate actions. I won't discuss student discipline," he added.

The letter sent to parents also says, "We kindly ask you to talk to your child about this matter. Should you or your child have any information that would assist the district we would appreciate your help."
