Esiason On Pats Allegations: 'Probably True...But Probably True In Most NFL Cities"

PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan)- CBS Sports NFL Studio Analyst Boomer Esiason joined "The Cook and Poni Show" on Wednesday to discuss the latest reports on the New England Patriots' cheating scandal. He also discussed the NFL opener when the Pittsburgh Steelers travel to Foxborough to play the defending Super Bowl Champions.

The big story is yet another report that came out yesterday that the Patriots Spygate scandal may have been worse than we were originally lead to believe. The reports indicate that the Patriots may have had over 40 tapes of teams' signals and plays and also have had team personnel searching the visiting locker rooms for play sheets.

"It's probably true," Esiason said. "But, it's probably true in so many other cities as well."

He pointed out that when he played, there were always concerns with teams searching for an edge and doing these types of things. However, there are issues with the Patriots that do bother him.

"They were told to stop video taping the teams," Esiason said. "And they did not stop and the NFL had to step in and that bothers me."

Despite all of the allegations that hang over the Patriots, Boomer said that he still thinks Tom Brady is a great quarterback and should not have his Hall of Fame career tainted by this.

"Tom Brady is a first ballot Hall of Famer," Esiason said. "He is the greatest QB to have ever played and he still has more to give."

Esiason said that the Steelers having Roethlisberger and the best receiver in the game gives them a fighting chance to win this game Thursday night.

He expects a high scoring game and thinks the Steelers will have opportunities to score because he thinks the Patriots' secondary is suspect.

"Hey, we know they (Steelers) have not had a great preseason," Esiason said. "When it's go time, the Pittsburgh Steelers do have a sense of who they are and will be better on defense than we think."
