Pirates Fall To Cards In Start Of Crucial Series

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – It was a scoreless game until the top of the ninth, when St. Louis put three runs on the board.

That's when fans started streaming out of the park.

Fans filed into PNC Park for game one of a three-game series between the two best teams in all of baseball.
The Pirates and the Cardinals are now in a tight race for the National League Title.

For baseball fans, it doesn't get much better or tighter than this.

"I've lived through, in the past, when we've won the World Series," said Rob Spicher of Collier Township. "I almost forgot what that feeling was like. It's nice to be back doing it again, for sure."

"Right now, the Pirates are pretty hot," said Kevin Cohen of the North Side. "It's important for fans to support them in the stretch, right here."

Early in the game, the Pirates loaded the bases twice, starting off with a Neil Walker double. That brought fans to their feet. But leaving six players on base and not being able to score was disappointing to say the least.

And lurking in the background was that potential Wild Card elimination game with the Cubs and their powerhouse pitcher, if the Bucs are unable to clinch the division title.
