1 Dead In Butler Co. Trench Collapse

SAXONBURG (KDKA) -- Emergency crews have been called to the scene of a fatal trench collapse this afternoon in Butler County.

It happened around 2 p.m. in the 200-block of Dinnerbell Road.

According to emergency dispatchers, one person became trapped in the collapse.

A 21-year-old man from Clearfield County was killed. Investigators at the scene say it was a horrible accident.

Crews were digging a trench about 10 to 12 feet deep, about the size of a large water well.

Sources say the man saw a shovel at the bottom of the trench and jumped in to get it and that's when the trench caved in.

There's no word yet on what caused the collapse.
