Pittsburghers Very Skeptical Of New "Peeple" App

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Are you ready for "Peeple" the app? It's like Yelp, but for rating people. And many Pittsburghers don't think it's a good idea.

You can make your own profile, or someone can make one of you, and then you're fair game for other users to rank you - personally, professionally, or romantically.

"I don't like it. I don't think it's good to spread negative reviews about people," said Amanda Rothharmel, of the North Side. "I think that's terrible."

But the app creators say if you post a bunch of negative reviews of others, your own ranking will go down.

They're hoping that gets people to play nice.

Still, many have concerns.

"When you apply for maybe an apartment, a job, a car loan, kinda worries me a little bit in that sense because you might never know who you have a grievance with," said Chris Hoffman, of Crescent Township.

If someone does hit you with negativity, you're supposed to get a notice before the bad review goes live to let you try to talk the reviewer out of it, or at least, let you plan your response.

"Nothing good can come of it, there's no reason to have anything negative that people don't want to have said about them," said the North Side's Jared Rotharmel.

The app is still in the testing phase. They plan to take it live next month.
