IUP Football Players Charged After Fight, Armed Robbery

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – Two football players for Indiana University of Pennsylvania are facing charges after a allegedly fighting and committing armed robbery near the campus Friday night.

Indiana Police say the trouble started on the front porch of a house in the 700-block of south street. Two members of the IUP football team, 23-year-old Gabriel Yuille and 18-year-old Kahlif Starke-Clemons, both of Philadelphia, got into an argument with the resident.

"They were among a group of other persons and all the persons went onto the property and were asked or directed to leave by the resident," said Indiana Borough Police Chief William Sutton.

The argument led to a fight with Starks-Clemons punching the resident in the face.

"The victim was momentarily unconscious and he had a laceration to the back of his head after the fight," said Sutton.

During the incident, police say Yuille took money from another man at the residence.

Police say that was the first of two robbers committed near the campus. Two non-students were arrested for robbing several students at gunpoint near Lowry and Fleming streets.

Meanwhile, the two football players face a number of charges, including robbery, theft, simple assault, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct. Gabriel Yuille is locked up in the Indiana County jail.

Officials say neither of the players were dressed to play in Saturday's game against Edinboro. Police and school officials emphasize none of the robberies are connected to Saturday's homecoming events.
