Wild Card Preparations Underway, Including Playoff Rally Tuesday

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – At PNC park today, it was like getting ready for a big party.

The Pirates are hosting the Chicago Cubs in the wild card game on Wednesday, so crews spent the day getting the ball park ready.

Pirates President Frank Coonelly says the team is ready play for at least another month.

"We're looking to play baseball deep into October and if we have to, into November as well."

But there's a lot to do before then. Right now the focus is on Wednesday. It has already been dubbed "Bucktober Black Out Day."

Everyone lucky enough to have a ticket already is asked to wear black and even if you aren't going to the game, wear black.

It sends message to the cubs.

"The players love it and Josh Harrison and Andrew McCutchen called for it. Our fans get into it, It's menacing and all in black in union, they feel like they're part of team."

This is the third time the Bucs have made it into post season play in the last few years, so Pittsburgh fans know how to show their support for the team.

The City, County and PNC are joining forces for a rally on Tuesday at the County Courthouse.

It has been dubbed Pittsburgh Pirates Pride day and the attire is simple: black and gold.

The festivities begin at 11:30 a.m. with music and prizes. Fans are being asked to wear the colors all day.

Voice of the Pirates Greg Brown will be at the rally and he joined "The KDKA Morning News" with Larry Richert and John Shumway to talk about the excitement surrounding the city.

While Pirates fans have to wait for Wednesday for the game Brown says, "Those games are wild, they're tons fun and what's really neat about it is because it's not until Wednesday, we have this build up. The anticipation of it is even more exciting."
