Bob Walk To Throw Out First Pitch At Wild Card Game
PITTSBURGH (93-7 The Fan) – Pirates broadcaster Bob Walk will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch at Wednesday night's NL Wild Card Game between the Cubs and the Pirates at PNC Park.
He will be following in the footsteps of Doug Drabek and Kent Tekulve, who threw the first pitches at the NL Wild Card Games in 2013 and 2014, respectively.
With that in mind, Walk joined "The Fan Morning Show" on Wednesday morning to talk about receiving the honor, and to preview the game.
Walk cautioned Pirates fans against expecting a laser from him.
"I'm planning on using my 'Grateful Dead' pitch," Walk said. "Which is stuck in the 60's. That's where the velocity will be...all I'm going to do is try to get it there in the air and not embarrass myself."
That being said, Walk isn't planning on taking a few steps toward home plate before throwing the ball.
"The kids have told me that I will embarrass the entire family if I don't throw it from the rubber," Walk said. "No cheating up and getting on the front of the dirt. I can't do that."
All kidding aside, Walk is incredibly thankful for the honor.
"It is an unbelievable honor to be selected like this," Walk said. "I'm not even sure I'm really worthy of this. There are so many great Pirates that could have been chosen. I'm just going to go out and do my best. It's going to be quite a thrill for me to be out there and be a part of that dark black ocean that I know we're going to have there tonight."
