3 Woman Charged With Abandoning Dying Puppy On North Side

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) -- Three women are now facing charges for leaving an sick dog that eventually had to be put down at a convenience store on Pittsburgh's North Side last month.

Police say two of the women left the dog near a dumpster at the 7/11 on Western Avenue. The third woman owned the Yorkshire Terrier mix, police said.

Two of the women were recorded on the store's surveillance cameras, which police and humane officials reviewed in their investigation.

The Western Pa. Humane Society says the three women, Troilynai Hicks, 24, Arielle Abdullah, 29, and Rikia Abdullah, 28, all of Pittsburgh, are now facing animal cruelty charges.

Joy Braunstein, the executive director of the Western Pa. Humane Society, said in a press release, "Since 1874, the Humane Society of Western Pa. has been the voice for those who cannot advocate for themselves. Our Investigations Department is an integral part of how we serve the region, enabling us to further protect animals in danger just like this dog who was abandoned and left to die which is not acceptable – and we have the chance right now to create stricter penalties against abusers. It is a relief that charges were filed in this case."

The dog was taken to the Humane Society but was put down because of its condition.

Pittsburgh Police assisted the Humane Society in the investigation.
