Child In Diapers Found Wandering In Bridgeville

BRIDGEVILLE (KDKA) – A child is in the custody of her grandmother after being found wandering around Bridgeville Friday night.

Police say Nicholas Schepis and his girlfriend Stephanie Becker were moving into a new apartment in Bridgeville when their car was discovered in the middle of the 500-block of Washington Avenue.

Chief Chad King of the Bridgeville Police Department said officers immediately detected an odor of alcohol.

"The officer noted at that point that the male seemed very intoxicated and asked if there was anyone else who could move the vehicle," said Chief King.

Police say that's when Becker got behind the wheel with Schepis as a passenger, and the two took off, but didn't go far.

Police say a short time later they found the couple and their car just over a block away.

"The vehicle pulled over a few blocks away on Station Street, and observed the female was highly under the influence of drugs, not alcohol," said Chief King.

While Schepis and Becker were detained by police, however, they failed to mention their 3-year-old daughter had been left home alone, and was now

She was found around 9 p.m. Friday by a passerby wandering down Washington Avenue alone, wearing only a pair of shorts and tee-shirt, no shoes or jacket.

Police say Becker gave police an explanation they didn't believe.

"The female claimed the child must have been dropped off to an empty apartment by the child's grandmother," Chief King said.

Becker and Schepis had a run-in with Collier Township Police when, again, police suspected the couple was under the influence with the little girl in the car.

She is now in the custody of her grandmother.
