Allegheny County Employee Accused Of Stealing $21,000 Of Aluminum

PITTSBURGH (KDKA)- A longtime Allegheny County employee is facing charges for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars worth of aluminum from the county.

James Schrott, 59, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

According to the Tribune-Review, Schrott is accused of stealing 11,000 pounds of aluminum signs worth more than $21,000. County workers set up a sting and were able to track the aluminum to a local scrap yard.

The criminal complaint also named Steven Beswick as Schrott's accomplice. He has been charged with receiving stolen property.

The Tribune-Review says Schrott has worked for the county since 1977 and has been suspended without pay. He is currently a maintenance supervisor with the Allegheny County Department of Public Works.
