PennDOT Announces Weekend Closure Of Fort Pitt Tunnel & Parkway West

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) –PennDOT has announced the latest round of weekend closures for the Fort Pitt Tunnel and Parkway West.

According to PennDOT, the outbound Fort Pitt Tunnel will be close this weekend.

The closure begins at 9 p.m. on Friday and will run through 11 a.m. Sunday morning as crews continue to work on the tunnel's ceiling.

The outbound Parkway West between the tunnel and Interstate 79 will also be closed from 9 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Saturday.

Detours will be set up and are as follows:

From Friday at 9 p.m. through Saturday at 10 a.m.:

Westbound (outbound)

  • From the Fort Pitt Bridge, traffic will take the ramp to North Route 837/Route 51 West End (Exit 69C)
  • Continue straight towards the Route 60/Crafton Exit
  • Follow signs towards northbound Route 19/60 to East I-376 Crafton/Downtown
  • Take left ramp towards Downtown/Crafton
  • Continue right towards the Route 60/Crafton Exit
  • Turn left onto Wabash Street
  • Wabash Street becomes Greentree Road
  • From Greentree Road, turn right onto Mansfield Avenue (Route 3062)
  • Turn left onto Noblestown Road (Route 50)
  • Noblestown Road becomes East Main Street
  • Turn right onto Jane Street
  • Jane Street becomes Mansfield Boulevard
  • Mansfield Boulevard becomes West Main Street
  • Follow West Main Street to I-79
  • Take the ramp to northbound I-79
  • Follow northbound I-79 to I-376
  • End detour

From Saturday at 10 a.m. through Sunday at 11 a.m.:

Westbound (outbound)

  • From the Fort Pitt Bridge, traffic will take the ramp to North Route 837/Route 51 West End (Exit 69C)
  • Follow Route 837 (West Carson Street) to the West End Circle
  • Turn left onto southbound Route 51 towards the Airport
  • Follow Route 51 to Airport/Carnegie ramp to I-376 Parkway West
  • End detour

Police will be manning key intersections along the detour routes, but PennDOT is warning drivers to expect significant delays.
