2 IUP Students Stabbed On Campus

INDIANA (KDKA) -- Two Indiana University of Pennsylvania students were stabbed on campus Friday night.

The two students were stabbed near the dorms at Grant Street and Pratt Drive just before 10 p.m. Friday.

An international student from China says she saw one of the victims moments after the attack.

"I saw one person with blood on his hand, and we were afraid," IUP student Carol Cai said.

IUP spokesperson Michelle Fryling says one victim was released and another is being treated, but should recover.

A crime alert has been issued for three suspects.

"We are looking for three men wearing dark hoodies, and we also have information that a red SUV was identified as being part of the scene," Fryling said.

Since last night, the university has been texting and sending emails to students advising them about the stabbing and urging them to be safe and aware of their surroundings. No motive was given for the stabbings.

KDKA-TV's Bob Allen spoke to a few students on campus Saturday afternoon. Most students he spoke with knew about the attacks and were taking the necessary precautions.

"Stick together, stay with your friends," IUP student Patrick Minnick said. "Don't go anywhere that's too sketchy."

"Just not going anywhere by myself, and, like, sticking with the guys," IUP student Maggie McGahen said. "Not walking home alone or anything like that."

Meanwhile, the university is hoping someone can identify the suspects and provide police with information needed to make an arrest.

"We're hoping someone saw something, knew something, knows something and will come forward," Fryling said. "We don't want this kind of violence on our campus because it's not who we are."

Anyone with information can call the University Police at (724) 357-2141. Calls can be anonymous.
